Global Entry for German Citizens

Instructions for German Global Entry applicants:

Citizens of Germany can apply for Global Entry through CBP's Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP) website.  German Federal Police

Application Process:

  1. Citizens of Germany, excluding U.S. Lawful Permanent Residents, must initiate the Global Entry (GE) application process by submitting an online application through the Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP) website. Once properly submitted, a membership ID/PASSID number will be generated for each account.
  2. You are required to provide the PASSID number to the German Federal Police (BPOL) as part of their mandatory background check - BPOL will not conduct background checks for interested GE participants who do not provide a PASSID. BPOL locations can be found via the German Federal Police website.
  3. Your GE application status will be viewable in your TTP dashboard (Pending, Conditionally Approved, or Denied).
  4. If Conditionally Approved, follow instructions to schedule an interview at one of the Global Entry Enrollment Centers or use the Enrollment on Arrival (EoA) option that is available when entering the U.S. following an international trip.  No appointment is required for the EoA process.  Additional information can be found on the Enrollment on Arrival website.
  5. You must bring your passport and a photo ID that shows your current residence address with you to the interview.  During the interview a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer will ask you questions and collect your biometric information (fingerprints, if applicable, and photo).
  6. After your interview CBP will send you an email/notification to your TTP dashboard regarding your final eligibility determination.  If approved, your Global Entry benefits will begin immediately.

Maintaining Global Entry Membership:

Your initial GE membership will expire on your fifth birthday after final approval by CBP.  After that, membership will be extended in five-year increments.  To ensure continuity of GE benefits you must submit a renewal application via the Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP) website prior to your membership expiration date.  CBP will send a reminder to the email address on file in your GE account prior to your membership expiration. Renewal applications may be submitted up to 364 days prior to the membership expiration date.

Other Benefits:

Once enrolled in Global Entry you will also be eligible for TSA PreCheck.  You will not be issued a Global Entry card, bot possession of a GE card is not required to receive TSA PreCheck benefits.  To receive this benefit while traveling domestically throughout the United States, you must enter your GE membership number (PASSID) in the airline reservation when booking your flight(s). Visit the TSA PreCheck website for more information.

Travel Requirements:

All German Global Entry members must have a valid passport and visa or approved Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) to utilize the BE border processing technology to enter the United States.  As a GE member you are required to maintain current passport information in your TTP profile.  However, if you obtain a new visa or change your name then you must notify CBP in-person at a Global Entry Enrollment Center. No appointment is necessary for name change or visa information updates.  If the information in your account is incomplete or incorrect, the GE border processing technology may incorrectly calculate your digital I-94 data, and you may not be able to receive TSA PreCheck benefits while traveling throughout the United States.
